A Channelview ISD teacher is “no longer employed” by the district following allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a student.

Students have identified the teacher as Michael Thomas Lehew, a band director at Alice Johnson Junior High School in the Channelview Independent School District, located east of Houston.

HTX Media received pictures of inappropriate messages Lehew sent to students.

One image shows Lehew admitting on social media that he “violated the rules of my contract by having an Instagram account to connect with my students.”

“I am not the band director of AJJH anymore,” Lehew added.

Superintendent Tory Hill notified AJJH families that the school had received an allegation of “inappropriate conduct involving a classroom teacher” who is “no longer employed by Channelview ISD,” but did not name the teacher.

“Authorities were notified immediately, and an investigation is currently underway,” stated Hill. “Because this is an ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide additional details at this time.”

“Please know that we take these situations very seriously, and the safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority,” Hill added.

Online records show Lehew had worked for Channelview ISD since 2024 and previously taught in Splendora ISD and Crosby ISD.

A biography now scrubbed from the Channelview ISD website states that Lehew has worked as a “substitute music teacher, private music instructor, and music performer” and is also a “part-time minister.”

Lehew has held a Texas educator certificate as a classroom music teacher since 2010.

Over the past few years, a growing number of Texas school employees have been accused of sex crimes against students and other children, and thousands have been reported to the Texas Education Agency for sexual misconduct.
