The Denton Record-Chronicle reports today that the Denton City Council voted to renew its legislative lobbying contract with HillCo, which will cost taxpayers $81,000. The article notes: “HillCo consultants helped Denton with a variety of key issues in 2007, including fighting stricter limits on tax revenue a city can collect and on how much a property can increase in value each year.”
The article further states: “HillCo also helped scuttle bills that would have created a sales tax holiday for textbooks…”
Is it not fiscally irresponsible for cities to continue using taxpayer money to lobby against fiscal responsibility? Let’s hope lawmakers next session look at putting an end to taxpayer-funded lobbying. Story here.
