The lone conservative on the Austin City Council dais has broken all previous records for initial fundraising for her re-election race.

According to the ATX Pulse newsletter, Councilmember Mackenzie Kelly raised over $150,000 during the fundraising period that ended June 30. This leaves Kelly with $155,000 cash on hand. By contrast, at this point in her initial 2020 campaign, Kelly had a mere $16,000.

“I am deeply humbled and grateful for the incredible support from the people of Austin,” Kelly said. “This record-breaking fundraising total for June 30th report is a testament to our community’s trust and confidence in our vision for a safer, more prosperous Austin.”

“Our campaign has received contributions from all corners of Austin, reflecting a broad coalition of support,” she continued. “This financial momentum will enable us to run a sophisticated and professional campaign, continue our outreach efforts, and ensure that every resident’s voice is heard in this critical election.”

I believe in holding our city leaders accountable and ensuring transparency in all our decisions. Losing my seat on the council would be detrimental to good, balanced governance. We need a diversity of voices to represent the full spectrum of Austin’s community.

Throughout her tenure, Kelly has made public safety a top priority. On a related note, she has been an outspoken opponent of the city’s homeless camping policies. In 2023, she called for an outside audit of the city’s homelessness spending. She recently led the cleanup of an abandoned homeless encampment in her district.

Regardless of her more conservative background, Kelly has garnered support across the political spectrum.

Democrat trial lawyer Adam Loewy announced his support on X.

City Council elections in Austin run concurrently with the November general election. Kelly currently faces opposition from left-wing activist Krista Lane.
