Authorities are urging students who may have been victims of sexual misconduct by Crosby High School Band Director Kevin Knight to come forward.

Knight was placed on administrative leave February 20 following alleged “inappropriate, improper relationships” with former students, according to Crosby Independent School District Superintendent Paula Patterson.

Patterson told parents the district learned of the allegations from the Harris County Precinct 3 Constable’s office and “immediately” placed Knight on leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the district and “further possible action by law enforcement.”

On Friday, Harris County Precinct 3 Constable Sherman Eagleton announced that his office is “actively investigating” an alleged incident of improper relationship between educator and student, which is a second-degree felony.

The constable did not name Knight but stated that the criminal investigation of a Crosby High School employee began after a complaint was filed on February 20.

“As our detectives continue to gather evidence, information has developed indicating that there may be additional victims who have not yet reported their experiences to law enforcement,” stated the constable’s office.

Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact the lead investigator, Detective Sergeant Helgoth, at 713-274-9739 with reference case number 2602-00460.

Online records show Knight has worked for Crosby ISD since 2015. He is still listed in the Crosby High School staff directory.

In 2019, Knight was named the Texas Young Bandmaster of the Year. More recently, Knight received a 2024 Professional Excellence Award from local business-review site Crosby-Huffman411, which called him “an outstanding man in our community” whose “personal commitment to his students goes above and beyond.”

Knight has held a Texas teaching certificate since 2010. There is no indication he is currently under review by the state.

Over the past few years, a growing number of Texas school employees have been accused of sexual misconduct involving students and other minors.

Band director Michael Lehew, who was ousted last month from Channelview ISD over alleged inappropriate communications with students, previously worked at Crosby ISD with Knight.
