Last fall, the City of Dallas passed stricter lobbyist registration laws and should be applauded for doing so. Now, other cities should step up.

(In a post yesterday, based on what appeared to be a recent article, I argued most Texas cities, Dallas especially, needed to pass such legislation. The article was actually out of date, and Dallas leaders had already responded appropriately, though it won’t be effective until April 1st.)

However, among Texas cities Dallas is unique in bringing sunlight to city hall. Too many cities around Texas don’t let the public see who is influencing laws, ordinances and contracts – and how.

As the nation celebrates Sunshine in Government Week, we should demand more light in all levels of government.
