A late-night shooting at the Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass over the weekend left two people dead and five others injured, including a retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent.
According to the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a shooting at the casino around 11:48 p.m. on Saturday. Sheriff Tom Schmerber said in a press briefing that his deputies assisted Kickapoo Tribal Police in securing the scene and collecting evidence.
Authorities identified the suspect as 34-year-old Keyran Jones, who was later located and taken into custody in Wilson County. He faces two counts of capital murder and five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Sheriff Schmerber extended condolences to the families of the victims and prayers for those recovering from injuries.
“I would like to give my condolences to the two families,” Schmerber said. “I understand there’s two deceased and hopefully prayers for the ones that are wounded. Hopefully they can recover fast.”
Among those killed was Marcus Antley, a retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent.
Eagle Pass Mayor Aaron Valdez confirmed Antley’s death on social media and shared a heartfelt tribute.
“Mr. Antley dedicated much of his life to public service and law enforcement. He will be remembered not only for his career but also for his generosity, leadership, and the lasting friendships he built throughout Eagle Pass and the region. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of many,” wrote Valdez.
Alicia Sanchez, a Dimmit County resident, has been identified as the other victim.
The Lucky Eagle Casino, located on the Kickapoo Tribe of Texas reservation near Eagle Pass, is one of only a handful of casinos operating in the state. It offers Class II gaming, which includes electronic bingo-style slot machines permitted under federal law.
Authorities have not yet released a possible motive for the shooting.
