Multiple Democrat elected officials were photographed in the immediate vicinity of a protest sign that read “8647 IS HE DEAD YET?” during Saturday’s “No Kings” protests in Houston, Texas. Some elected leaders shared images of the threatening sign on their personal social media pages.
Eighty-six is slang for getting rid of someone, while 47 refers to Donald Trump, who is currently serving as the 47th president of the United States.
Houston City Councilmember Mario Castillo posted a picture of himself standing with the sign directly in front of him. He has deleted the post since Texas Scorecard initially reported the incident.
In another post, Councilmembers Mario Castillo, Abbie Kamin, and Joaquin Martinez are speaking while the same sign is visible in front of them.
U.S. Rep. Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) participated in a chant while the “8647” sign was visible in the frame. Pictures show the position of the sign directly in front of the congresswoman during the moment captured.
Garcia also shared a picture of the sign on her personal social media account while thanking Houstonians for protesting against “an imperial government”—presumably referring to President Donald Trump.
The protest was organized under the banner “No Kings” and took place outside Houston City Hall. The event drew more than 15,000 protesters, according to Mayor John Whitmire.
While the protest remained physically nonviolent throughout the day, the rhetoric at the event was not peaceful.
The sign reading “8647 IS HE DEAD YET?” appeared in multiple images and has not been publicly explained. Its origin remains unconfirmed. As of the time of publication, no organization or individual has claimed authorship.
No official statements have been issued by the elected officials shown in the images concerning the sign’s content or their proximity to it.
Texas Scorecard reached out to the elected officials pictured next to the sign, but they did not respond before publication.
