An East Texas educator is under investigation for alleged misconduct with a former student.
The educator worked for the Anderson-Shiro Consolidated Independent School District, a two-school district in Grimes County, northwest of Houston.
Superintendent Sarah Borowicz notified families and staff about the investigation on April 16 and stated that the employee is no longer with the district, according to a report by the Navasota Examiner.
Borowicz said the district took immediate action to ensure students’ safety and well-being, in accordance with board policy and law.
“As soon as we received this information, we immediately contacted the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, and they initiated a formal investigation,” stated Borowicz. “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement as they work through this process.”
The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office said no arrests have been made and no other details are available as the investigation is ongoing.
Investigator Shannon Acosta urged parents to ask their children if any Anderson-Shiro CISD staff member had contacted them outside of school or in an inappropriate way.
Acosta said parents should also monitor their children’s phone and social media accounts. Communications between school employees and students are restricted by district policy.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Grimes County Sheriff’s Office at 936-873-2151.
Another East Texas teacher is also under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct involving a student.
The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Texas Scorecard that a Henderson ISD teacher was accused of indecency with a child by exposure but asked the state for permission to withhold more information, citing an “ongoing criminal investigation.”
Over the past few years, hundreds of Texas school employees have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children, and thousands have been reported to the Texas Education Agency for sexual misconduct.
