An Edinburg school employee is accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile he met on a dating app.

Carlos Daniel Garcia, 27, was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a child and online solicitation of a minor.

Garcia worked as an attendance clerk at Memorial Middle School in the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District.

He was fired following his January 6 arrest by the Edinburg Police Department.

Police reportedly began investigating after responding to a break-in at Garcia’s residence in November.

Investigators identified a juvenile suspect, then discovered that Garcia knew the suspect.

Police determined Garcia met the juvenile through a dating app and the two had communicated via text messages, in which Garcia sent explicit photos of himself and solicited sex from the juvenile.

Garcia also allegedly admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the juvenile on one occasion.

He was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail on January 7 and released January 9 on bonds totaling $22,500.

Over the past few years, a growing number of Texas school employees have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children.
