A former Austin Independent School District middle school teacher has been arrested for possession of child pornography. He has also been accused of having an improper relationship with a student, according to a letter from the district.

Possession of child pornography and improper relationship with a student are a second-degree and third-degree felony offense, respectively.

Jonathan Marks taught at Bedichek and Gorzycki middle schools from 2020 through the fall semester of 2024.

During his tenure, Marks worked as a special education inclusion teacher. His teaching certificate is currently under review by the Texas Education Agency.

Marks was booked in the Williamson County Jail late last week. He was later released on a $100,000 bond.

Gorzycki Middle School Principal Sarah Tanner sent a letter to parents informing them of Marks’ arrest and assuring them that the district is working with Austin ISD Police.

“We know this is a troubling situation and want you to know we are here to support,” the letter reads.

Tanner also requested that if any parents have information related to the investigation to contact Austin ISD Police at 512-414-1703.

Due to the active investigation, Tanner told parents that the school district will not have any additional details to share with the public.

Marks is among hundreds of Texas teachers and school employees accused of sex crimes involving children in just the past few years.
