An Elgin Independent School District middle school teacher has been arrested and charged with having an improper relationship with a student, a second-degree felony.

A student accused former middle school teacher and dance coach Turran Cortez Fennix, 34, of inappropriately touching him while he was staying at Fennix’s home.

Fennix coached a non school-affiliated dance team that often used the middle school gym for practice. Social media posts show that Fennix also worked with the Elgin Middle School Cheer Squad.

KVUE reports that according to court documents, the victim was inappropriately touched by Fennix during a Christmas party in December 2024 and had slept in the same bed as Fennix.

According to filings, the student recounted a second incident of inappropriate conduct in the spring of 2025 while having a sleepover with other students at Fennix’s house.

During a third sleepover, the student discovered a video on Fennix’s phone that was taken underneath the bathroom door and depicts the victim getting out of the shower. Police said Fennix had deleted the video, which he claimed to have filmed for a “social media prank.”

Fennix was arrested on November 16 and released the following day on a $15,000 bond. He denied the charges brought against him but admitted to having hosted the victim and other students at his house.

Police report that Fennix allowed the student victim to have a sleepover at least once after learning of the accusations against him in February.

Elgin ISD released a statement that it has been made aware of Fennix’s arrest and reported that Fennix had resigned in early September.

“When the district was first notified of a police investigation into these allegations, we immediately assisted local police as requested and promptly followed all other necessary reporting requirements.”

The district wrote that it is committed to continuing to work with the Elgin Police Department during the investigation.

“Providing a safe and caring educational environment for our children is Elgin ISD’s first priority and inappropriate misconduct will not be tolerated.”

Fennix is among hundreds of Texas educators accused of sex crimes involving students and other children in just the past few years. Thousands have been reported to the Texas Education Agency for sexual misconduct.
