A teacher and coach in Azle Independent School District was jailed after a former student reported to police that they had an inappropriate relationship several years ago.
Carlos Alberto Font Santiago, a Spanish teacher and softball coach at Azle High School, was arrested Thursday and charged with improper relationship between educator and student.
The offense includes sexual contact or sexually explicit communication with a student, regardless of the student’s age, and is a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison.
“Coach Font has worked for Azle ISD for seven years as a teacher and assistant coach for various sports,” the district stated in a notice to parents. “This was his first year as head softball coach at AHS.”
“He will not return to any district property or have any contact with students while the legal process continues,” the notice stated.
Coach Font no longer appears in the Azle High School staff directory, but his wife, Kyndall Font, is listed as an athletic trainer.
The district is located northwest of Fort Worth in Parker, Tarrant, and Wise counties.
Font was booked into the Tarrant County Jail on April 18 and released later that day on a $7,500 bond.
State records show Font’s teaching certificate is under review by the Texas Education Agency.
Font is among hundreds of Texas educators charged with sex crimes involving students and other children in just the past few years.
