A high school soccer coach in Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District was arrested for allegedly sending a pornographic video to a child.

Joseph Allen Johnson, 31, was arrested and charged with distributing harmful material to a minor, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail.

Johnson was the head boys’ soccer coach at Harlingen High School.

According to a press release from the Harlingen Police Department, a “concerned individual” reported to police on Sunday than an adult had sent a “pornographic video” to their child.

As a result of its investigation, Harlingen PD arrested Johnson on Monday.

A statement from Harlingen CISD spokeswoman Ashley Rodriguez referred to Johnson as a “former employee.”

We prioritize the safety of our HCISD school community and thank the Harlingen Police Department for their partnership. Through our partnership, we were able to take swift action to address concerns regarding the former employee. The situation has been reported to the appropriate authorities, including but not limited to the Texas Education Agency.

District officials have not responded to a request to clarify Johnson’s employment history with the district or confirm whether the child is a student.

Johnson was booked into the Harlingen City Jail on May 12 and later released on a $7,500 bond.

State records show that a Joseph A. Johnson holds a teaching certificate that is under investigation by the Texas Education Agency.

Hundreds of Texas school employees have been accused of sex crimes against students and other children in just the past few years, often with multiple arrests made each week.

On Thursday, a McKinney ISD employee was charged with indecency with a child by exposure and a Brownsville ISD teacher and coach was arrested for improper relationship between educator and student.
