The push to hold drag shows for children has now extended past bars and restaurants, with a church in Katy, Texas, slated to hold a “drag bingo” event for all ages next month.
The event is hosted by First Christian Church of Katy, part of the Disciples of Christ denomination. The church advertises that the event will be “family friendly” and hosted by their “favorite” drag queen, Kiki Dion Van Wales, on September 24. Wales has also hosted other drag events, including “Kiki’s Playground Sexy Sunday.”
While the “family friendly” portion of the event begins at 5 p.m., the advertisement states that the event becomes adults only (18+) after 8:30 p.m.
Van Wales, the host, will be joined by fellow drag queen Tisha Flowers.
Drag shows for children have been on the rise in Texas, as various bars and restaurants have begun hosting “drag brunches” and other events in which scantily clad men dressed as women dance provocatively in front of young children.
State Rep. Bryan Slaton (R–Royse City) has already pledged to file legislation to ban drag shows for children, while citizens continue to put pressure on establishments that host them, including a Roanoke restaurant slated to host an all-ages drag brunch this coming weekend.
Chris Hopper, the president of Texas Family Project, called the church’s event “perverse.”
“Beware of church leadership who cave to the woke ideological cesspool,” Hopper told Texas Scorecard. “It’s one thing for a bar or secularist organization to host a drag event; it’s a whole other monster for a so-called church to host such an event. This event has two shows: one for all ages and a more provocative 18+ event later in the evening. How perverse.”
