A Houston-area teacher has been arrested after it was alleged he had an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old student.

Kayden Burbank, 29, worked at Cy-Fair High School as a teacher and assistant coach for the Cy-Fair football team.

After learning of the allegations, the district placed Burbank on administrative leave on April 2. He resigned from his position on April 9.

The same day he resigned, Burbank was booked into the Harris County Jail on one charge of an improper relationship with a student. He is currently being held on a $60,000 bond with an upcoming court date on April 26.

According to court documents obtained by KHOU 11, Burbank had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student beginning in February. The two would allegedly meet in his classroom or leave the high school and go to a nearby hotel.

Investigators revealed that the sexual relationship was discovered when Burbank’s girlfriend found text messages between the two.

Cy-Fair ISD did not specify the details of the improper relationship but released the following statement:

Mr. Kayden Burbank, a former teacher at Cy-Fair High School, resigned on April 9, 2024. Mr. Burbank was placed on administrative leave on April 2, 2024, pending a complete investigation by campus administration and law enforcement, after campus administration was made aware of allegations of an improper relationship between an educator and student.

State records show that Burbank’s teaching certificate is still valid and he is not currently under investigation by the Texas Education Agency.

Texas Scorecard has exposed dozens of educators charged with sex crimes, with more being charged almost daily.
