A North Texas football coach was jailed for multiple child sex crimes including soliciting a minor for sex.
Andrew Michael Harvey was arrested by the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office and charged with solicitation of a prostitute under the age of 18; online solicitation of a minor, sexual conduct; and sale, distribution, or display of harmful material to a minor.
According to an arrest affidavit, Harvey was caught in an undercover operation targeting sex trafficking of minors.
Harvey is the athletic director and head football coach for Howe Independent School District in Grayson County, located north of Dallas on the Texas-Oklahoma border.
A statement from Howe ISD Superintendent Kevin Wilson indicated that Harvey was “immediately” placed on administrative leave following his arrest, and he was barred from district property and contact with students or staff.
“We will continue to follow District protocols to comply with legal requirements, and the incident has been reported to the Texas Education Agency State Board for Educator Certification and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services,” stated Wilson.
Harvey was booked into the Tarrant County Jail on June 23 and released the next day on bonds totaling $35,000.
State records show Harvey has been certified as a classroom teacher since 2013. His current teaching certificate is under review by the TEA.
Howe ISD hired Harvey in June 2022. According to Superintendent Wilson, the teacher passed an initial fingerprint-based background check run through FBI and Texas Department of Public Safety data.
Harvey was promoted to head football coach for Howe’s 2024 season after two years as an assistant.
Online records show Harvey previously taught in Keller ISD from 2015-2017 and Sanger ISD from 2020-2022.
