Mayor Armin Mizani has proclaimed “NO SHARIA LAW IN KELLER,” addressing concerns about the increasing influence of a foreign legal system that is incompatible with U.S. and Texas law.
Mizani signed a proclamation on December 16 “affirming constitutional supremacy, American sovereignty, and rejection of foreign legal systems” in the city of Keller.
“In Keller, we are governed by American law, NEVER foreign legal systems like Sharia law or Sharia courts,” Mizani wrote in an X post announcing the proclamation.
As Mayor, I take my oath to the Constitution seriously. That’s why I have issued a proclamation affirming a simple principle: one U.S. Constitution, one legal system, and equal justice under the law. No competing legal systems have authority here.
“This proclamation is just the first step,” he added. “In the days ahead, I will continue working with the City Council to permanently codify these principles.”
Mizani has served on the Keller City Council since 2014 and was elected mayor in 2020.
He is now running for the open Texas House District 98 seat in the March 2026 Republican primary.
Mizani unsuccessfully ran for the seat in 2018 against the incumbent State Rep. Giovanni Capriglione (R–Southlake). Capriglione declined to run for re-election in 2026 after reports of an affair.
“Texas requires leaders with a record of taking clear, principled conservative stands,” wrote Mizani. “Texans should never apologize for our heritage or our values; instead, we should fight for them.”
Republicans at the federal and state levels are also addressing Texans’ increasing concerns about the spread of Sharia law, which U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R–Austin) called “an existential threat” to America.
In October, Roy introduced the Preserving A Sharia-Free America Act that would prevent all foreign nationals who observe Sharia from entering or remaining in the country. Roy is one of four candidates currently running for Texas attorney general.
Last month, Gov. Greg Abbott called for investigations into “possible criminal violations by Sharia tribunals masquerading as legal courts” in North Texas.
