A former teacher and coach in New Braunfels Independent School District is facing new charges in connection with accusations that he sexually abused a female student two years ago.

Bryant Shephard, 43, was arrested last week and charged with two counts of sexual assault—his third arrest related to the case.

Shephard was a special education teacher and girls’ soccer coach at New Braunfels High School at the time of the alleged assaults.

He was first arrested in March 2023 and charged with improper relationship between educator and student.

Prior to that arrest, the school principal notified parents that a teacher accused of “inappropriate conduct” (later identified as Shephard) was no longer employed by the school district as of March 2, 2023.

Shephard was arrested again in January 2024 and charged with two counts of sexual performance by a child involving the same student.

Following those arrests, Shephard was released on $250,000 bonds for each charge.

Shephard was booked into the Comal County Jail for a third time on March 21 and released the same day on a total $50,000 bond.

Shephard had worked at the school since 2017. State records show his teaching certifications, which date back to 2016, are expired or inactive. His certification is currently under review by the Texas Education Agency.

In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas teachers and school employees have been charged with sex crimes involving students and other children.
