An “exemplary” North Texas teacher has been charged with sexually abusing a young student at a charter school where he worked.

Eric Mitchell Moore, 30, was arrested on charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, a first-degree felony, and indecency with a child by sexual contact, a second-degree felony.

At the time of his arrest, Moore was a teacher at the North Texas Collegiate Academy East Campus in Little Elm, which serves pre-K through 8th grade students.

According to a statement from the Little Elm Police Department, a student made an outcry on January 7. Moore was placed on administrative leave that same day and later resigned.

Little Elm Police launched a criminal investigation in coordination with the Academy that ultimately led to Moore’s arrest on January 29.

Moore was booked into the Denton County Jail. Bond has not yet been set.

Anyone with information related to the ongoing investigation is encouraged to contact the Little Elm Police Department at [email protected] or 214-975-0460.

Moore received an intern teaching certificate in October 2025. He also earned an “exemplary teacher” designation—“a distinction awarded to highly effective public school teachers,” according to the Texas Education Agency.

Over the past few years, hundreds of Texas teachers have been accused of sex crimes against students and other children. Thousands have been reported to the TEA for sexual misconduct.
