An educator was fired from Pearsall Independent School District over allegations of inappropriate communication with a student.
Local police identified the school employee as Alizandra Berrelez, 24, a paraprofessional at Pearsall Junior High since 2024.
The Pearsall Police Department is investigating but told KSAT Investigates the educator is not charged with a crime at this time.
Police also said cellphones involved have been sent to federal authorities for data extraction.
Berrelez graduated from Pearsall High School in 2019.
In 2023, she began working for the small South Texas district in Frio County—first in a non-teaching job, then as a teacher’s aide.
State records show Berrelez became certified as an educational aide in October 2023.
As of today, two weeks after she was fired, her certification is not under review by the Texas Education Agency.
Pearsall ISD Superintendent Jodi Spoor notified the community last week that an unnamed district employee had been terminated.
“The district recently received information regarding inappropriate communication between a paraprofessional and a student,” Spoor wrote in the August 18 message. “Immediate action was taken to investigate the matter, and law enforcement was notified … The employee was immediately terminated and is no longer employed by Pearsall ISD.”
Spoor stated that because the investigation is ongoing, the district cannot provide additional details at this time. She encouraged anyone with information to contact the Pearsall Police Department.
“Please know that our priority remains the safety of our students, and we will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement,” she added.
Hundreds of Texas educators have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children in just the past few years.
