Pflugerville Library is poised to host a pro-LGBT event this weekend for families.

Listed as a “family pride” event, the taxpayer-financed library plans to hold this event from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The event description on the library’s Facebook page describes it as “all ages.”

“Kick off Pflugerville’s Pride Celebration at the library,” the library wrote on Facebook. “All ages can join us for crafts, giveaways and light refreshments, then head down town [sic] to show your Pride! Materials and refreshments available while supplies last on a first come, first served basis.”

Beyond the lack of an age limit, activist Keri Smith noted on social media that artwork related to the event featured an obviously male figure wearing a bathrobe and women’s undergarments.

Pflugerville City Councilmember David Rogers told Texas Scorecard, “The council was not informed of this advertising before it went out, and I personally find not ‘Pflugerville Pfamily Pfriendly.’”

Rogers explained that these communications are handled by the city manager’s office. While the city council has not set a policy around approving or disapproving advertisements, Rogers said “that seems to be something at which we need to take a serious look.”

“No one, male or female, should be depicted in their underwear in city advertising,” added Rogers. “That is my opinion, but it has not been endorsed or ratified by a vote of the City Council.”
