In an online survey Rep. Jerry Madden (R-Plano) is conducting of his constituents, there is overwhelming support for property tax relief. Some 70% of respondents say the surplus should be used for property tax relief.

Also, 65 percent support capping appraisal increases at 5 percent instead of the current 10 percent and capping local government spending increases at the rate of population plus inflation.

Additionally, strong majorities oppose increasing the sales tax in the Metroplex to give more money to DART for public transit. DART and their backers are expected to push this tax increase measure again next session.

The survey covers a wide range of other issues and is part of a blog where constituents also sound off on their own top priorities for state government, many of which feature an informative reply by Rep. Madden.
