A retired Richardson teacher and coach is facing a new first-degree felony charge for possessing a large quantity of child sexual abuse material.
Charles Ray “Chuck” Brandon, 68, was arrested Tuesday and charged with possession of more than 500 visual depictions of child pornography, the term used in state law for child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Brandon was booked into the Collin County Jail on August 11 and released the next day on a $20,000 bond.
In October 2023, Frisco police arrested Brandon on a similar charge after receiving a tip and searching his home, where investigators found “multiple images meeting the Texas statutory definition of child pornography.”
Brandon had been released on a $30,000 bond. That bond was discharged on December 15, 2025, per a district attorney directive.
The new charge was filed on July 23 by a grand jury indictment.
Brandon worked at Berkner High School in the Richardson Independent School District for 30 years, from 1991 to 2021. During that time, he coached girls’ soccer and taught speech and debate.
“This news is shocking and disturbing,” Richardson ISD officials said at the time of Brandon’s arrest in 2023.
Brandon has held lifetime teaching certifications for physical education, speech, and English since the 1980s. His credentials are under review by the Texas Education Agency.
In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas educators have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other minors—including possessing, producing, and distributing CSAM.
The TEA’s Educator Misconduct Reporting Dashboard shows that the agency is currently investigating more than 2,500 sexual misconduct complaints and opening an average of 250 new cases each month.
