A teacher’s aide in Robinson Independent School District was fired and jailed for sexting an 18-year-old male student.

Christopher Roman Gonzales, 42, was arrested Wednesday by the Robinson Police Department and booked into the McLennan County Jail.

Gonzales was charged with improper relationship between educator and student, a second-degree felony, and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony.

Deputy Superintendent Tim VanCleave confirmed to Texas Scorecard that Gonzales was terminated on January 24.

Gonzales was hired by Robinson ISD in August 2019 and worked as a paraprofessional on two campuses.

At the time of the alleged crimes, Gonzales worked at Robinson Junior High School, which is attended by 7th and 8th grade students. From 2019-2022, he worked at Robinson Intermediate School, attended by 4th through 6th graders.

The victim’s parents reportedly contacted police about Gonzales last week.

Investigators allegedly found sexually explicit photos and messages exchanged between the educator and student on Gonzales’ cell phone. Police also discovered Gonzales had deleted evidence and had told the student to do the same.

Police notified Robinson ISD officials, who said they fired Gonzales following an administrative investigation.

“We understand this news is deeply disturbing for our entire school community,” Superintendent Michael Hope stated in an announcement issued Wednesday informing families of Gonzales’ arrest. “If you have any questions or concerns, you may direct them to me but please understand there is very little additional information I can provide due to the ongoing police investigation and the privacy rights of those affected.”

State records show Gonzales has been certified as an educational aide since 2019. His current certification was flagged Thursday to indicate he is under investigation by the Texas Education Agency.

Local parents say Gonzales is married and has children.

Gonzales is the third Central Texas educator accused this week of misconduct involving a student.

Texas Scorecard has reported on hundreds of teachers charged with sex crimes.
