A San Antonio charter school teacher is accused of upskirting a 7-year-old student during class, capturing photos of the young girl’s private areas.
Augustine Rodney Rendon, 29, was arrested and charged with invasive visual recording, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine.
Rendon was an elementary teacher at Jubilee Lake View University Prep in San Antonio, a Jubilee Academies public charter school serving pre-K through 12th-grade students.
Rendon’s alleged victim reportedly told her mother that the teacher called her up to his desk during class, moved his cell phone to his lap with the camera lens facing up, and took photos underneath her skirt.
The girl stated that Rendon also placed his leg between her legs and told her to separate her legs further.
The child’s mother reported the allegations to the San Antonio Police Department in March.
Police obtained a search warrant and found six photos on Rendon’s phone of the victim’s “intimate area” under her skirt.
Rendon was booked into the Bexar County Jail on July 7 and released the next day on a $50,000 bond.
Jubilee officials said in a media statement that Rendon was immediately removed when the allegations arose and no longer works at the school. No other Jubilee students were identified as victims.
State records indicate that Rendon does not hold a Texas teaching certificate.
Earlier this year, Jubilee San Antonio 3rd-grade teacher Caleb Nelson was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old student on campus.
Hundreds of Texas school employees have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children in just the past few years.
