The City of Austin is set next week to finalize an unprecedented, all-or-nothing “transportation” bond for the November 8th ballot — at $720 million. In present form, officials are essentially burying dozens of expensive, unrelated projects behind the universally recognized need to reduce traffic congestion.

Worst of all, because the current proposal lacks specificity, it presents a high risk for taxpayer dollars – passed by voters in good faith as a traffic remedy package – to be spent on frivolous and unrelated projects. At the very least, the current proposal should be broken into smaller propositions to be individually considered by voters.

Sign the petition now and tell the Austin City Council to let the voters choose what projects they want to fund!
