An administrator from Texas A&M University has been arrested and charged with continuous sexual abuse of a young child, a first degree felony that carries a possible sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
Darvis Lenell Griffin, 55, has worked for Texas A&M since 2020, first starting as an assistant CIO and Director of IT before being promoted to his current role in 2023 as Texas A&M’s Executive Director of Information Technology.
Local station KBTX reported that Griffin was arrested September 3 by Texas A&M campus police on a warrant from McLennan County. Griffin was booked into the Brazos County Jail and later transferred to McLennan County.
Court records show Griffin was released September 12 on a $75,000 felony bond in McLennan County. He is set to be arraigned on October 16 on charges of continuous sexual abuse of a young child (under the age of 14) and indecency with a child by sexual contact.
In 1991, Griffin was arrested by Texas A&M campus police for “burglary of a habitation.”
Before being hired by A&M, Griffin worked for Waco Independent School District, during which time he first served as a chief technology officer then as an assistant superintendent of technology and innovation.
He has also taught high school technology courses and held various IT positions at higher education institutions, including at Collin Community College, Texas A&M Health Science Center, and the University of Texas at Austin.
Griffin received a Texas educator certificate in 2001 that was listed as “inactive” in 2007 and is currently under review by the Texas Education Agency’s Educator Investigations Division.
Texas A&M confirmed to KBTX that Griffin has been suspended pending further investigation.
