Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham announced the completion of a stretch of border wall along the Rio Grande on Wednesday.
The 1.5-mile border wall paneling is located on a ranch in Starr County. The General Land Office acquired the 1,400-acre ranch in Starr County where the wall has been built back in October 2024.
The area, located in U.S. Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Sector, has seen the greatest number of illegal alien crossings.
Less than 24 hours after purchasing the property, Buckingham signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Texas Facilities Commission to begin construction of the border wall. On top of the border paneling, Buckingham revealed that TFC is in the process of installing security cameras, lighting, and a motorized gate to allow law enforcement to patrol the property.
Buckingham says that her office will continue to play a role in protecting Texans.
“When we purchased this land, we did so intending to fortify our southern border. The completion of this roughly 1.5-mile stretch of border wall is another step in the right direction in ensuring robust border security for our state,” said Buckingham. “As the agency that stewards over thirteen million acres of state land, the Texas General Land Office will continue to play a significant role in safeguarding our Texas families and communities.”
