As the invasion along the Texas-Mexico border continues, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers in conjunction with U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a human smuggler as he brought four illegal aliens into Texas.

Lt. Chris Oliverez said the smuggler, Christian Medrano-Alanis, is from Mexico and was caught bringing four people across the river in the Rio Grande Valley.

Following Medrano-Alanis’ capture for human smuggling, further investigation revealed that a cell phone on his person contained child pornography.

The Texas Rangers then took over the case and charged Medrano-Alanis with possession of child pornography.

“It should come as no surprise that human smugglers are guilty of other crimes,” Chris Russo, president of Texans for Strong Borders, told Texas Scorecard. “As most know by now, women and even young girls who are smuggled across our border are commonly sexually assaulted by men like Medrano-Alanis.”

Indeed, experts have told Texas Scorecard that it’s not a matter of if a woman will be raped on her journey to the U.S.-Mexico border, but when she will be raped.

“We encourage Governor Abbott to prosecute this man to the fullest extent of the law and to put an end to human smuggling by securing our border and addressing the pull factors that drive illegal immigration,” said Russo.

Although Texas has taken unprecedented measures in an attempt to deter illegal crossings along the Texas-Mexico border, more work remains.

Texans for Strong Borders is calling for Abbott to call a special legislative session to “creat[e] a dedicated Texas border force, eliminat[e] taxpayer subsidies for illegal aliens, and mandat[e] E-Verify to ensure they cannot obtain employment.”

Russo and other border security advocates believe these measures will deter illegal border crossings and keep illegal aliens out of the hands of violent cartels.
