A now-former teacher’s aide who worked with special needs students at Levelland Middle School faces 60 years in federal prison after he admitted to producing child sexual abuse material, referred to in law as child pornography.
Camilo Reyes Castillo, 46, was arrested in June for recording videos of himself sexually abusing two boys, ages 9 and 12 years old, while they were staying at his house in Levelland.
Castillo then shared details of the abuse with other adults online.
According to court documents [warning: graphic content], a cooperating witness in a Texas Department of Public Safety investigation admitted in February to using the Telegram messaging service to talk with other adults about sexual fantasies involving children and to trade child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
The witness said a man later identified as Castillo discussed how he sexually abused two boys he had access to when they stayed at his house.
From March through May of 2025, undercover agents used the witness’ Telegram account to communicate with Castillo, who was using the alias G Wilkers.
Castillo provided identifying information, including that he had started working at a middle school in Levelland. “I work with students who need behavioral and emotional support (smiling emoji),” Castillo messaged.
On June 16, DPS agents executed a search warrant at Castillo’s residence and found 170 photos and videos of CSAM in Castillo’s cell phone. Seven videos were dated March 11, 2025, and showed Castillo sexually abusing the two boys.
During a forensic interview, the boys said Castillo also abused them while visiting their residence in Round Rock.
Castillo was arrested by the Hockley County Sheriff’s Office on June 17 and charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count of possession of child pornography.
Levelland Independent School District officials said at the time that the victims were not students, and that the unnamed suspect was no longer employed by the district.
Then-Interim Superintendent David Foote stated that Levelland ISD was “not aware of, and does not currently suspect, any alleged misconduct by this former employee at any of its campuses, or that any District technology was used by the former employee in the alleged commission of the offense(s) charged.”
Castillo was arrested again June 26 on federal charges, including seven counts of producing child pornography and one count of possessing CSAM involving a prepubescent minor.
A jury trial had been set for November 3.
In a plea agreement signed October 10, Castillo accepted 360-month sentences for each of six CSAM production charges, to be served concurrently, and another 360 months for a seventh charge, for a combined sentence of 720 months or 60 years.
Castillo is scheduled to be arraigned on October 27 before a federal judge in Lubbock.
State records show Castillo was certified as an educational aide in May 2025. His certificate is under review by the Texas Education Agency. According to the TEA, only school district employees are eligible to apply for an educational aide certificate.
In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas school employees have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other minors, and thousands have been reported to the TEA for educator sexual misconduct.
