An email containing Marxist propaganda sent by a counselor at the Plano Independent School District has been confirmed to be authentic. The documents promote key demands of the Black Lives Matter movement, but school officials said the webinar “was not authorized, nor is it in use.”

On July 10, a document that appeared to be an email sent by Plano ISD Counselor Dianne Evans to fellow counselors Sian Flores and Amy Henry circulated on social media.

The email, dated June 12, 2020, contains documents from a webinar called “Understanding the Black Experience in America: Be the Change You Want to See in the World.”

Created by St. Louis-based Dr. Marva Robinson, the document provides talking points for counselors to discuss with patients the killing of George Floyd by then-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. It also provides guidance on how to broach the subject if their patients don’t.

It also included a “Justice In June” document outlining “a starting place for individuals trying to become better allies.”

What is this “starting place”?

A list of books, essays, shows, and actions for people to do daily. The list raised concerns among local citizens about whether they are appropriate material for a school counselor to use.

The reading and watch list include the following:

  • “America’s Racial Contract is Killing Us”
  • The New York Times’ “1619 Project,” which promotes a narrative that America is based on slavery and racism
  • “The Case for Reparations”
  • “Let’s Get to the Root of Racial Injustice”

The actions include the following:

  • “Help reallocate city budgets by defunding the police.”
  • “Donate to anti-white supremacy work such as your local Black Lives Matter chapter.”

Taking taxpayer dollars from the police to grow government elsewhere is the current focus of the Black Lives Matter organization after Floyd’s tragic death, instead of pushing for greater police accountability and transparency.

Of great concern to parents is an attached “Master List of Black Revolutionary Readings” that includes radical Marxist and violently militant authors:

  • Terrorist Muammar Gaddafi’s “Green Book”
  • Lenin: “The State and Revolution”
  • Karl Marx & Frederick Engels: “The Communist Manifesto”
  • Basic Marxism-Leninism Study Plan
  • Che Guevara: “Guerrilla Warfare”
  • “Black Like Mao: Red China & Black Revolution”

Texas Scorecard sent a press inquiry to Evans and the entire Plano ISD board of trustees. We asked for confirmation whether this document is authentic and if it is currently in use by the district.

On July 17, Superintendent Sara Bonser replied that the district had reviewed the matter.

“We can confirm that the webinar attended by the employee was not authorized, supported nor is it in use by Plano ISD.”

Yet concerns remain over why someone employed by taxpayer-funded institutions responsible for educating children is spreading a doctrine that has murdered millions across the world.

Texans deserve to know if their school districts are utilizing this propaganda. Concerned citizens are encouraged to contact their local school board, as well as their elected member of the State Board of Education.
