Randall: Texas Is Better When It’s Redder

President Trump and Ken Paxton kept the Texas promise. James Talarico would destroy it.

I’m a Texas Realtor, a mother of three sons, and a grandmother. In the great state of Texas, hard work defines us. I started a youth program in Houston to teach young people about capitalism and community service, because I want the next generation to carry that spirit forward.

Texans have a simple deal from their government: let us work, let us provide for our families, and keep us safe.

President Trump and Attorney General Ken Paxton have delivered on that promise. James Talarico would destroy it.

President Trump secured our border. It has gone more than a year without a single release, and apprehensions are 94 percent below the Biden-era monthly average. Under his leadership, violent crime across Texas is down 13 percent.

President Trump put money back in Texans’ pockets. About one in four Texas workers no longer pay federal income tax on qualifying overtime, and average tax refunds hit $4,344, the second highest in the nation.

He is bringing jobs home, too. Toyota is investing $3.6 billion in San Antonio, SpaceX is putting $16.8 billion into Grimes County, and Saronic Technologies is building its $3.2 billion Port Alpha shipyard facility at the Port of Brownsville in South Texas.

Ken Paxton has been Texas’ fighter in the courtroom. He took on the Biden administration more than 100 times, standing up for Texas energy workers against the oil and gas leasing moratorium and fighting to restore Remain in Mexico.

Now meet the alternative. Talarico plays a moderate on TV, but the record shows a flip-flopping radical who is too dangerous for Texas.

He would gut Texas energy. Talarico wrote a bill to cut statewide emissions to half of 1990 levels by 2030, in a state where oil and gas keeps hundreds of thousands of families afloat. He compared the oil industry to a cassette tape business. Last month, he called it “a real shame” that his bill died.

He would dismantle free enterprise. Talarico talked about dismantling the “oppressive systems” he linked to capitalism. His campaign now calls him “a proud capitalist.”

He would erase our way of life. Texas is cattle country, yet Talarico voted against our bipartisan ban on lab-grown meat and bragged that his campaign had become a “non-meat campaign.”

He would turn on parents. In 2022, Talarico dismissed parents’ concerns about explicit material in Texas schools as “a conspiracy theory.” In 2019, he said that denying a child’s gender identity is “abusive, for sure.” In 2023, he voted against Texas’ ban on puberty blockers, hormones, and surgeries for minors.

He would sacrifice girls’ sports. Talarico opposed protecting girls’ sports, saying “you can’t compromise with hate.” Now that he’s on the ballot, he has tried to reinvent himself. His own minister told an undercover camera, “I can guarantee you that once he gets elected, he’ll change his tune back to where he was.”

He would abandon our police. A new report found that Talarico told a pro-defund group it was “rich” that “defund the police” is considered “off-limits.” He gave $2,500 to a group pushing to defund Austin police and said we could “make prisons obsolete.”

President Trump secured our border and cut our taxes. Ken Paxton took Washington to court and fought for Texas. Together, they kept the Texas promise: safe streets, a secure border, good jobs, and a government that stays out of the way.

Talarico would destroy it all to please the activists waiting to make him into a puppet.

On November 3, let’s keep our promise alive. Let’s keep Texas red.
