Rumors swirling around the Capitol and in Collin County allege that the wife of Texas’ Attorney General is considering a run for the Texas Senate.
On Tuesday, Capitol publications began reporting that Angela Paxton could be eyeing a campaign for Senate District 8 of the Texas Senate. While that seat is currently held by State Sen. Van Taylor (R–Plano), the incumbent has all but officially announced that he will be running for Congress in 2018.
Prior to Taylor’s election to the seat in 2018, SD 8 was held by Angela Paxton’s husband, Ken Paxton, Texas’ Attorney General. The district is considered to be safely Republican, heavily centered on Collin County.
Phillip Huffines, the current chairman of the Dallas County GOP and identical twin brother of State Sen. Don Huffines (R–Dallas), has already announced a campaign for SD 8 and been campaigning since March.
Huffines emerged as the frontrunner for the position last week after State Rep. Matt Shaheen (R–Plano) announced that he would run for re-election to the Texas House instead. Another of Shaheen’s colleagues rumored to run for the position, State Rep. Jeff Leach (R–Plano), announced the same earlier this year.
