Charlie Geren is at it again, lying about his involvement with his former campaign staffer’s fraudulent phone call to CPS accusing his opponent of abuse.
In a statement released late Tuesday, State Rep. Charlie Geren (R–Fort Worth) responded to the release of a deposition transcript, claiming the deposition confirmed his denials of involvement in the 2016 attack on his opponent’s family. Nothing could be further from the truth.
In fact, the deposition repeatedly contradicts Geren’s prior statements, confirming that Sorensen was the person who made the phone call to CPS, that he was a long-time Geren staffer, and that Geren had discussed subjects contained in the CPS report with Sorensen.
In his statement, Geren falsely claims that French’s attorney offered to settle the lawsuit if Sorensen would implicate Geren in the call and that Sorensen declined the offer. But the actual tape of the deposition demonstrates something very different.

French’s attorney asked Sorensen, hypothetically, if he would confess, apologize, and concede he made the phone call to politically benefit Geren, in return for French dropping the suit. Sorensen’s lawyer instructed him not to answer the question.
Sorensen, a Democratic political operative who nonetheless was Geren’s longest-serving campaign staffer during 2016, is being represented by Stephen Maxwell, the former head of the Tarrant County Democratic Party. Throughout the deposition, Maxwell repeatedly instructed Sorensen not to answer dozens of questions that would have directly implicated Geren in the CPS attack on the French family.
Voters will pass judgment on Geren and his lies at the polls on Tuesday, March 6th.
