Attorney General Ken Paxton is pressuring two school districts to relinquish documents proving they are not allowing boys to compete in girls’ sports.

The attorney general sent letters to the superintendents of Dallas and Irving Independent School Districts after learning that administrators in these districts were coaching parents on how to circumvent state law protecting girls’ athletics.

Paxton’s letter to Dallas ISD focuses primarily on LGBT Youth Program Coordinator Mahoganie Gaston’s attempt to explain how loopholes in state law can allow parents to enroll boys in girls’ sports programs.

Gaston asserted that the district would consider a sex change on a student’s birth certificate in determining eligibility for a sports program.

“Specifically, Ms. Gaston advised the parent that if the parent were to change the birth certificate of their son to indicate ‘female,’ it would enable that male student to participate in interscholastic sports for young women,” Paxton wrote.

“Ms. Gaston further stated that your district ‘find[s] the loopholes in everything’ and that she is willing to go to jail for defying Texas law,” he continued. Paxton demanded that Dallas ISD turn over all communication among employees regarding sports participation eligibility based on biological sex as well as any organizational charts that explain Gaston’s management role.

The attorney general’s letter to Irving ISD highlights a similar issue. Specifically, an undercover investigation revealed that Irving ISD administrator Reny Lizardo was coaching parents on how sex changes on birth certificates could allow boys to play sports in girls’ programs.

The letter demands similar documentation to that of Dallas ISD, along with Lizardo’s letter of resignation.

“The idea of school district officials turning their backs on female students and sacrificing the integrity of women’s athletics to advance the radical transgender agenda is disgusting, but that seems to be exactly what occurred here,” stated Paxton.

The attorney general also confirmed that “Any systematic effort by a school district to sidestep state law and allow biological boys to play in girls’ sports in Texas will be rooted out, and my office will explore all avenues to hold those responsible to account.”
