The Biden administration has reportedly given Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas and Planned Parenthood of South Texas more than $1 million in taxpayer grants in response to the Texas Heartbeat Act.

The Dallas Express reported that the Department of Health and Human Services gave the two Texas chapters of the nation’s largest abortion provider $1.4 million last year. The grants were funded through the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, signed by President Joe Biden in 2021.

“This competitive grant opportunity addressing dire family planning needs was announced as part of a series of recent actions HHS took to protect patients and health care providers in response to the Texas Law SB 8,” reads the press release. “Today’s awards will go to entities in seven states, including Texas, and were made possible by funds from the American Rescue Plan.”

Senate Bill 8 by State Sen. Bryan Hughes (R–Mineola), also known as the Texas Heartbeat Act, made it illegal for an individual in Texas to kill a child in the womb once the baby’s heartbeat is detected. The law was passed during the 87th Legislative Session.

Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas received a $785,256 grant titled “Providing Title X Family Planning Services in West Texas in the Aftermath of SB 8.”

In the award information, HHS said, “The urgency for family planning services has increased since the passage of Texas Senate Bill 8 (SB8), which effectively bans abortion with no exceptions for rape, incest, fetal viability, or the health or life of the pregnant person past about six weeks—before most pregnancies are discovered.”

Planned Parenthood of South Texas was awarded a $623,280 grant, to be focused on providing contraception services.

“Everyone living in this country deserves access to family planning services,” said Assistant Secretary for Health, Admiral Rachel L. Levine. “These additional funds will support a broad range of family planning and preventive health services related to achieving pregnancy, preventing pregnancy, and preventing and treating sexually transmitted infections.”

Additionally, Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas Surgical Health Services has received more than $4.6 million in Title X grants since 2022.

According to Planned Parenthood’s latest financial report, the HHS has distributed $265 million in taxpayer dollars for Title X grants in 2022. $16 million of which went to regional Planned Parenthood’s around the nation.

Furthermore, Planned Parenthood receives 35 percent of its revenue from “Government Health Services Reimbursements & Grants.”

Rebecca Weaver, legislative director for Texas Right to Life, issued the following statement to Texas Scorecard:

This is yet another example of the Biden Administration’s radical pro-abortion stance. While unsurprising, it is disheartening to see the federal government spend millions of taxpayer dollars in direct opposition to what Texans value and prioritizplaed through their elected officials – the protection of innocent human Life through the Texas Heartbeat Act. This is a good law that is directly saving lives, and Texas Right to Life will continue defending it, preborn children, and their mothers.

Texas Scorecard reached out to Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas and South Texas but did not receive any comment before publication.
