As more counties in Texas continue to declare an invasion at the southern border, Gov. Greg Abbott is expanding his plan to bus illegal aliens to sanctuary cities in other states. Last week, Abbott announced that Chicago will be the newest destination for willing illegal aliens crossing the border into Texas.

Since April, Texas has sent more than 7,000 illegal aliens to Washington, D.C., and more than 1,500 to New York City on buses, at a cost of around $1,400 per passenger. The first bus to Chicago arrived on Thursday, carrying more than 50 illegal aliens.

“President Biden’s inaction at our southern border continues putting the lives of Texans—and Americans—at risk and is overwhelming our communities,” said Abbott. “To continue providing much-needed relief to our small, overrun border towns, Chicago will join fellow sanctuary cities Washington, D.C. and New York City as an additional drop-off location.”

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is calling the plan to bus illegal aliens “racist,” accusing Abbott of having no morals or humanity.

“This is about a cheap political point. It’s not about sharing the load,” said Lightfoot. “To Greg Abbott and his enablers in Texas: with these continued political stunts, [he] has confirmed what many of us had already known—he’s a man without any morals, humanity, or shame.”

Though Lightfoot expressed anger that her city has become the newest destination, her office has said they are making a commitment to help as many illegal aliens as possible.

“We are a welcoming city. We are always going to step up and do the right thing to make sure that migrants coming into our city are well received, that they’re supported,” said Lightfoot.

Lightfoot’s office has also started a donation page asking residents to donate clothes, shoes, diapers, and blankets.

“We have people coming as families, young children with their first taste of democracy and freedom in many instances, and we need to make sure that the memory that they have of Chicago and of the United States is favorable,” Lightfoot said. “Regardless of where their life journey takes them, I want them to feel like in this moment that they came to this city, we wrapped our arms around them, loved them, and supported them.”

While Lightfoot’s office has said they will open their arms and resources to the illegal aliens bused to the Windy City, Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez showed his disapproval for her focus on illegal aliens instead of the rising crime and gang violence.

In Chicago this past weekend, eight people were killed and several others were injured as a result of violent crime. Last year, almost 800 people were murdered.

Nonetheless, Abbott has said he’s excited to see her take on the responsibility of receiving the influx of illegal aliens and looks forward to seeing the sanctuary city serve them.

“Mayor Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of her city to welcome all regardless of legal status, and I look forward to seeing this responsibility in action as these migrants receive resources from a sanctuary city with the capacity to serve them,” Abbott said.
