With early voting already underway for the March primary elections, the Conservative Republicans of Texas published an extensive list of endorsements this week, covering both state and local elections.

The organization, led by longtime Houston-area activist Dr. Steve Hotze, is “committed to supporting outstanding legislative candidates who will fight for fiscal discipline & free enterprise economic policies.”

Most notably, the group selected former State Sen. Don Huffines as its pick for the gubernatorial race. Huffines is currently part of a field of Republican challengers facing incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott in the hotly contested primary election.

“Don Huffines is a Christian, Constitutional conservative who will finish the border wall, ban all vaccine mandates, and secure our elections,” the group wrote. “He is a successful businessman who knows what it’s like to meet a payroll and have families depend on the decisions he makes. He is pro-free enterprise and strongly anti-communist. He will uphold our traditional family values.”

Additionally, the group endorsed incumbents Ken Paxton for attorney general and Sid Miller for agricultural commissioner.

In the race for land commissioner, a position recently vacated by George P. Bush, the organization backed former real estate commissioner Weston Martinez.

“His conservative pro-business, free market approach to doing business has proven successful in identifying solutions where others see only problems,” wrote Conservative Republicans of Texas. “That is why he is uniquely qualified to serve as Land Commissioner during this unique time in our state’s and nation’s history.”

Early voting for the primary elections runs through February 25. Election Day is March 1.
