Fresh on news that his compromise on gun rights is collapsing under public exposure, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn was booed by delegates to the Republican Party of Texas’ biennial convention.
Cornyn’s opening comments were delayed as convention delegates expressed their displeasure. The senator seemed stunned by the response, clearly not expecting grassroots activists to understand what he had been pushing in Washington with the Democrats.
Trying to massage recent history, Cornyn told the audience he would “not approve any restrictions for law-abiding gun owners, and that’s my red line.“
The plan, though, includes funding for states to impose “red flag” laws—legislation that is specifically designed to circumvent due-process rights in denying Second Amendment rights to law-abiding citizens.
The frosty reception thawed slightly when Cornyn shifted to other topics, like opposing the “Green New Deal” and pushing pro-life laws.
But as he left the stage, Cornyn did so to more boos and jeers.
