U.S. Rep. Colin Allred has claimed that he opposes men competing in women’s sports despite having a voting record that demonstrates otherwise.
Allred (D-32) is set to face off against U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz in the November election for the U.S. Senate seat.
In a new advertisement called “Sports,” Allred asserted that he does not, in fact, support biological men competing in women’s sports.
“I’m a dad. I’m also a Christian. My faith has taught me that all kids are God’s kids. So let me be clear. I don’t want boys playing girls’ sports, or any of this ridiculous stuff that Ted Cruz is saying,” Allred said. He also accused Cruz of lying about his voting record.
In a prior set of ad campaigns, Cruz illuminated the fact that Allred’s voting record demonstrates otherwise.
Last year, he voted against the Protection of Women and Girls Sports Act—which aimed to prohibit school athletic programs from allowing biological men to be pitted against women in female sports.
He also voted in favor of a measure that would allow boys identifying as girls to use female-only facilities.
Now, less than a month away from the election, Allred claims that he opposes boys competing in girls’ sports.
“This is truly desperate and pathetic,” a Cruz campaign spokesperson told Texas Scorecard. “Things have gotten so bad for the Allred camp that they’ve resorted to flat-out lying on the airwaves. The logic here is truly mind-boggling, considering this is so easily debunked.”
“With 25 days left until Election Day, Allred is making it clear he’ll do anything to cover up his radical ideology that he knows is not resonating with Texans,” the spokesperson added.
Recent polling has Cruz leading Allred by five percent in Texas.
Early voting runs from October 21 to November 1. Election Day is November 5.
Colin Allred’s campaign did not respond to Texas Scorecard‘s request for comment before publication.
