As largely anticipated, President Donald Trump has won Texas’ 40 Electoral College votes.

With votes still being counted, Trump appears on track to beat Vice President Kamala Harris by his 2020 margin, when he defeated President Joe Biden by 5.5 points in Texas.

In this election, Texas has an even larger say in the process. With its population growing, redistricting conducted since the last presidential election has given Texas 40 electoral votes—two more than in 2020.

Gov. Greg Abbott, who endorsed Trump ahead of the primary election in March, congratulated the former president on his victory in Texas.

“Texans know who will slash inflation, secure our southern border, unleash American energy, and crack down on violent crime—and that’s Donald Trump. Texans rejected Kamala Harris’ radical leftist agenda and voted to restore freedom, prosperity, and opportunity for all Americans,” said Abbott.

This is a developing story.
