Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin recently reported on the latest numbers of illegal alien encounters with the U.S. Border Patrol. Elon Musk then reposted this report and asked if the public was “aware of the scale of issue.”

“Per CBP sources, yesterday alone, Border Patrol apprehended over 7,400 illegal immigrants at the southern border, & when combined with CBP ports of entry, there were over 9,100 migrant encounters in one day,” wrote Melugin. “I’m told CBP released 5,000+ yesterday [with] a notice to appear. As of this morning, CBP had over 21,000 people in custody.”

Musk responded:

One New Mexico resident commented, “Yes, and we have been screaming for help over here on the Border. It has proven in my eyes that all people [in] the border cities don’t matter to the rest of the country. We have been asking for years for help. Everyone said we were lying and being racist. It wasn’t until NYC started crying that anyone noticed…. and realized we have been saying the truth…”

Another citizen said, “The public is [aware], Biden doesn’t care.”

Indeed, the record-breaking numbers of illegal border crossings have been public knowledge for months. This follows the Biden administration’s decision to dismantle previous border security policies from the prior administration. Meanwhile, it still does nothing to stop the flow of illegal aliens.

The Heritage Foundation recently released a report entitled “Deceptive Numbers and Word Games Are Hiding Continued Mass Illegal Immigration Post–Title 42,” stating:

“Despite the legal requirement for mandatory detention of those caught entering illegally, the [Biden] Administration’s strategy has been to admit as many as possible on the pretext that they are seeking asylum. The seemingly lower numbers now being claimed for encounters at the border post–Title 42 are an illusion created by the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS’s) deliberate channeling of those seeking to enter the U.S. illegally to ports of entry (POEs) using Custom and Border Protection’s CBP One mobile-phone application and through rampant abuse of parole.”

One citizen did the math from Melugin’s report of more than 9,000 encounters in one day. He found that it would indicate more than 3.2 million encounters in a year. That’s more than double the population of San Antonio, which in 2023 was listed as being the seventh most populous American city

It’s also nearly a million more encounters than the record-breaking 2.3 million last fiscal year.

Based on Heritage’s report of skewed numbers, the CBP-reported numbers for this fiscal year of close to 2 million are likely significantly lower than they should be.

Additionally, while acknowledging that the average is likely not as high as 9,000 per day, one citizen highlighted how that rate every year would equate to about 1 percent of the overall U.S. population—meaning that in ten years, 9 percent of the country would be illegal aliens.

As the federal government refuses to secure the border, citizens are calling on Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to do more.

“We can’t endure this invasion much longer,” wrote one person in response to Melugin’s report.
