The Texas Home School Coalition announced its endorsement of Don Huffines for the 2022 Republican gubernatorial primary race earlier this morning.

THSC President Tim Lambert recalled his organization’s endorsement of Huffines for state Senate in 2014:

I said at the time, “We don’t need legislators who will only vote for legislation if we can get it to the floor of the House or the Senate. We need advocates who will use their political influence and ‘capital’ to pass legislation that will defend and support families and ‘homeschoolers!’”

Lambert says it’s “critical” to have advocates in offices at all levels of government to protect and defend the rights of parents, which is why THSC is endorsing Huffines.

Expressing his dissatisfaction with Gov. Greg Abbott’s lack of support for legislation and litigation that would protect parental rights, Lambert called Abbott’s recent Parental Bill of Rights “political posturing.”

However, Huffines’ time in the state Senate showed that he is “a champion of parental rights in Texas” and a “staunch supporter of homeschooling,” according to Lambert.

“I’m very proud to receive the support of the Texas Home School Coalition,” said Huffines. “Mary Catherine and I homeschooled all five of our children, and it was the right decision for our family. I will always fight for the rights of parents to direct the upbringing of their children.”

THSC has endorsed in races across the state, which can be found here
