Federal officials announced Tuesday the arrest of 10 people in connection with an attack on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
In the past week, federal law enforcement officers in Texas have been targeted in two violent ambushes. On July 4, a group of attackers opened fire on an ICE detention center in Alvarado, shooting a police officer in the neck.
Days later, a gunman shot at officers at a Border Patrol station in McAllen. Agents and local police returned fire and killed the attacker. One McAllen police officer was wounded in the exchange and is now in stable condition; no Border Patrol agents were injured.
Officials say these back-to-back attacks underscore escalating dangers to immigration enforcement officers.
Authorities say about a dozen people in black tactical gear carried out the July 4 attack on the Prairieland ICE Detention Center in Alvarado, luring staff outside with fireworks before opening fire on officers.
All suspects were later caught, and ten of them now face federal attempted murder charges.
“This was part of an organized attack,” U.S. Attorney Nancy Larson said. She added, “Each of these defendants faces a mandatory prison term of 10 years and up to life in prison.”
“I bet these idiots will plead insanity because they would have to be insane to do this in Texas. The State will collaborate with the Feds & if we can press state charges we will,” stated Gov. Greg Abbott.
We want these thugs to never see the light of day again.
The Department of Homeland Security told Fox News that assaults against ICE officers have surged by nearly 700 percent this year.
