Gov. Greg Abbott rejected the notion that Republicans should help Democrats achieve their agenda during an appearance on The Chris Salcedo Show.
Salcedo posed the question to the governor of whether he felt any obligation to help the Democrats achieve their agenda as there is “an effort by certain Republicans to give political power to Democrats they didn’t earn at the ballot box.”
Abbott responded, “Well, no.”
Salcedo was referencing the current battle in the Texas House between a majority of the Republican lawmakers and a minority of Republicans who have teamed up with Democrats.
The governor emphasized his commitment to advancing a conservative agenda that aligns with the desires of Texas taxpayers, rather than assisting Democrats in achieving their political goals:
My goal, my obligation is to advance an agenda that the taxpayers want, of the state of Texas.
He highlighted that his recent policy proposals as outlined in the State of the State Address were carefully crafted to address issues that he believes Texans support.
In addressing the Democrat agenda, Abbott asserted that it contradicts the will of the voters, citing the results of “red wave” on the border and across the nation during last November’s election.
He argued that the Democrat ideology was “completely squashed by the voters” and that their policies lack common sense and do not work for Texans or Americans in general.
“My goal is to work every single day to advance policies that the people are saying Texas want, and I know what they want is a conservative agenda that makes common sense, that gets back to the core values and principles of what America and Texas believe in.”
