Gov. Greg Abbott has issued a series of executive orders, directing state agencies to assist the Trump administration in securing the southern border and enforcing immigration laws.

“For the past four years, Texas has worked around-the-clock to defend our southern border while former President Joe Biden refused to protect our country from an invasion he allowed,” Abbott stated. “Now, we have a Commander-in-Chief in the White House who will do what is necessary to protect Americans.”

Abbott’s five executive orders reinforce Texas’ role in combatting illegal immigration and securing the border, which include:

  • Directing state agencies to assist federal immigration officers in investigating, arresting, detaining, and deporting illegal immigrants in Texas.
  • Ordering the Texas Military Department to work with the U.S. Northern Command in repelling the invasion at the southern border.
  • Deploying additional border barriers to stop illegal crossings.
  • Sharing intelligence on foreign terrorist organizations, including Mexican cartels and Tren de Aragua, with federal law enforcement.
  • Identifying state-owned land and facilities for the federal government to use for detention and deportation.

Abbott’s orders show the sharp shift from the policies of the previous administration, which largely ignored Texas’ pleas for federal border enforcement. Under former President Joe Biden, Texas was forced to take steps to secure the border on its own under Operation Lone Star, from constructing its own border wall to deploying the Texas National Guard.

Now with President Donald Trump back in the White House, Texas has instead moved to partner with the federal government in stopping the invasion at the southern border.

“Just like President Donald Trump and his Administration, Texas will do what is necessary to keep our country safe,” Abbott added.
