Around 200 Second Amendment supporters rallied at the Texas Capitol Tuesday morning to push for new legislation protecting citizens’ gun rights.

The event was organized jointly by Gun Owners of America, True Texas Project, and Texas Gun Rights.

The rally focused primarily on legislation surrounding the issues of banning “red flag laws,” advancing civil liability from justified use of force (known as Kyle’s Law), and eliminating gun-free zones.

State Rep. Brian Harrison (R-Midlothian) said that Texans should never lose sight of the fact that tyranny might be right around the corner. “When people fear the government there is tyranny,” Harrison said. “When the government fears the people, there is liberty.”

State Rep. Marc Lahood (R-San Antonio) encouraged Second Amendment supporters to stay engaged with federal and state representatives.

“As long as we never rest and we stay vigilant, we need to stay vocal,” LaHood said. “The fight is long, long, long, in the future… The Second Amendment is the amendment that protects all others.”

Yesterday, senators in the State Affairs Committee heard testimony from citizen activists on proposed legislation that would ban red flag laws.

State Sen. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola) filed Senate Bill 1362—which would block courts from “red flag” orders.

Texas Gun Rights President Chris McNutt encouraged attendees to call their legislators to support anti-red flag law legislation: House Bill 162 and Senate Bill 1362.

“Gun owners cannot sit back and assume their rights will be protected. Politicians campaign on pro-gun rhetoric, but it means nothing if they don’t follow through once in office. That’s why we must turn up the heat in Austin and ensure lawmakers prioritize gun rights in 2025,” McNutt stated today.
