A caravan from Honduras began heading for the U.S.-Mexico border on Nov. 3, midterm election day.
Miami’s Sociedad estimates that the caravan might total more than the reported 100 individuals. It also noted that one caravan member was attempting to cross the border illegally for the fourth time.
According to the Latin Times, “The timing was intentional. Throughout the group, participants expressed a shared belief that a Democratic takeover of Congress could weaken President Donald Trump’s grip on immigration enforcement, either by blocking new restrictive measures or simply by introducing enough political uncertainty to create a window at the border.”
“Trump is on his way out in these elections. That’s why we’re taking the risk,” said one migrant, according to Tico Times.
“While they’re going through the election process, we’ll be on our way. We have faith that we’ll arrive while they’re busy with that,” said another.
Some cited the dangers of Honduras as reason for the trek, since the country’s homicide rate is nearly four times the global average.
Yet Honduran nationals who have been caught residing illegally in the U.S. have continued the trend of dangerous crimes.
A Honduran wanted for the alleged murder of a Honduran man was arrested during DHS’s Lone Star Mission last month. A previously deported child sex predator from Honduras was apprehended in Maverick County earlier this year. Another Honduran national was arrested in Harris County for super-aggravated sexual assault of a 4-year-old child. One Honduran arrested for illegal entry had a record of kidnapping, sexual assault, and illegal re-entry.
The current caravan will also likely include Salvadorans, who plan to join the caravan at the Guatemala-Mexico border.
U.S. Embassy Tegucigalpa wrote on X that “caravan organizers are lying to you. No matter how you try, the border is closed. You will be detained, deported, and prosecuted.”
Last week, the Department of State announced that it would act on visa restrictions for caravan organizers, facilitators, or promoters.
The Trump administration remains in control for the next two years and has not indicated changes to border policy.
Journalist Jonathan Choe posted a video of the caravan on Facebook captioned, “And just like that, dozens of Hondurans began to leave Tuesday, November 3, in a new migrant caravan from San Pedro Sula, in the north of the country, with the hope of reaching the United States. They know Dems are going to let them in.”
According to Andrew Arthur of Center for Immigration Studies, incoming Democrats might try to pass amnesty for illegal aliens, but the American public might not approve: “When aliens benefit from violating our laws and trampling our sovereignty, Americans by and large feel like they’re being played for suckers.”
“How many working-class Americans who are concerned about inflation and foreign wars (and voted accordingly) do you think are going to be placated instead by a massive amnesty of millions of unlawfully present aliens? Perhaps we’ll find out the answer when the Democrat controlled 120th Congress convenes in January,” noted Arthur.
Groups along the Texas border have been attempting to diminish the importance of illegal immigration issues.
The Border Organization (TBO) is a charity and political organization in Del Rio.
In 2022, 830 Times displayed a picture of Irma Cardenas, a leader of TBO, as she “tells members of Val Verde County Commissioners Court declaring an invasion of the county by immigrants from south of the U.S.-Mexico border is ‘not a serious issue’ in the county.”
TBO’s Gage Brown recounted a conversation in which she asked someone to consider potholes as a day-to-day problem instead of illegal aliens crossing the border.
In 2024, TBO received a $50,000 grant from the Oficina Legal del Pueblo Unido, which fought border wall construction, opposed deportations, and opposed a bill denying bail for illegal aliens charged with felonies.
The caravan is currently weeks away from the U.S. border.
