Responding to news reports today that State Rep. Carl Isett of Lubbock will not be seeking re-election, the president of Empower Texans / Texans for Fiscal Responsibility said the state’s taxpayers are losing a true champion in the Legislature.

“We’re very sorry to see State Rep. Carl Isett retire from politics. He has been one of the strongest conservative leaders in the Texas House, especially on budget and tax issues,” said Michael Quinn Sullivan.

“Isett’s principled, practical leadership has well served the people of Lubbock and all Texans. Carl Isett has been, and remains, a shining example of honorable service to the people of the Lone Star State. As he takes on new challenges, we wish him and his family all the best.”

State Rep. Isett has twice been recognized by Empower Texans / Texans for Fiscal Responsibility for his legislative leadership on budget issues in the Texas House. This legislative session he earned the “Taxpayer Champion” award based on his high rating on the organization’s score card.
