An LGBT organization in the Lake Travis area is hosting a drag show at a public park in Jonestown later this month.

According to the group’s social media post announcing the event, the first annual North Lake Travis Pride Festival in celebration of “LGBTQ+ History Month” will include drag performances, live music, food trucks, and vendors at Jones Brothers Park in Jonestown. It is set to take place on October 26.

Warning parents about the event, Dr. Mary Bone posted on X that the event will take place at a public city park.

Free for all ages, the event will include activities such as trick-or-treating, an art station, and a drag queen story time for children who attend.

“Texas children deserve protection from adult agendas that seek to confuse, indoctrinate, and corrupt,” Vanessa Sivadge, president of Protecting Texas Children, told Texas Scorecard. “Drag shows are not harmless entertainment — they expose young minds to radical gender ideologies that distort biological reality and undermine a child’s natural sense of identity.”

Concerned parents from the Jonestown area have started a petition seeking to keep children from attending the event. The petition can be accessed here.

“We have a moral duty to safeguard their innocence, shield them from harmful influences, and draw a firm line against the sexualization of children in any form,” added Sivadge. “Childhood innocence is not for sale in the state of Texas.”

Senate Bill 12 was passed in 2023 by Texas lawmakers to prohibit sexually explicit shows in the presence of minors and on public property, with violators being liable for civil penalties up to $10,000 per violation.

After a lawsuit was filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas, a U.S. district judge issued a permanent injunction against the measure.

The case is currently being appealed.
